Happy Hour at Next Door by Josie

Here’s a good way to spend the hours between 5-7pm tonight:
(For that matter, its a good way to spend those hours every Tues-Fri night!)

.

“Oh, I am so happy its happy hour” at Next Door by Josie

When: Tues – Fri, 5-7pm, at the bar only.

What: $4 Beers, $5 Wines, $5 Prosecco, $6 Cocktails + $5-$10 Bites & Plates

.

This Santa Monica spot’s older sister (Josie) has been on our list of places to try for years now. But its a bit spendy for our nearly-empty wallets. Then came along Next Door by Josie, and that got us a little closer to the reality of trying the delicious food by chef/owner Josie Le Balch. But still, our wallets are nearly empty, and the drive from WeHo was far enough to create excuses for not going. Now we learn of happy hour and really cannot justify such an excuse any longer.

We must try this spot.

.
For those curious: the beer list includes four great options, ranging from Stone pale ale, to an 8%abv Hyperion stout (more bang for your buck!) The wines span from prosecco to rose to a couple nice red and white options and will only set you back $5 a pop. And the cocktails all sound fantastic: ‘havanna sidecar’, ‘cucumber collins’ ‘the queen of the desert’. Look up the ingredients on their website, all yum.

As far as food is concerned, the list includes intriguing items like deviled eggs with duck cracklin’, goat cheese and tomoato brulee, and beer and bacon caramel corn.

For those with a flexible work-schedule…

…And a liver that can handle mid-week, day-time, boozing… boy do we have a deal for you.

In honor of the humpiest day of the week, SOUTH in santa monica is offering a liquid lunch special today: $2 beers.

The offer is valid from 12pm – 4pm and there is mention of some ‘special food’ items as well. Not sure what that means, but  not sure we care. We’re just planning on guzzling a few $2 beers and then  heading to an afternoon meeting (that obnoxious constant-complainer in the office will be so much more palatable if we are a we bit intoxicated…)

For those without afternoon meetings, or a more flexible work schedule, you might plan on just staying at SOUTH after your ‘lunch’ is done to enjoy happy hour. Happy hour runs from 4pm – 7pm (yup, right after $2 beer time is done) and offers $3 domestic drafts, $4 wells, $5 wine and selection of appetizers for half-off (wings, fried pickles, nachos, onion rings, quesadillas, and hush puppies.)

That’s a whole lotta drinking for one hump day. Just how we like it…

Westside Wednesdays

Update for 2014: HH is 4-7pm, same deals/pricing as before. Westside Wednesdays is still on with same pricing and details.

Looking for a way to feel closer to your college days?  Busby’s West can help!

.

;

Westside Wednesdays @ Busby’s West

Weekly,  10:00p-1:30a

$3 draft beer, $3 house shots, $3 Busby’s Fries

Back in the day we would occasionally cross over into enemy territory (Busby’s is/was a UCLA spot) for a night of video games, Irish Car Bombs, and dancing with randos. The older we’ve gotten, the more our partying habits tend to simply involve sitting at the bar, drinking less aggressive drinks like beer/wine, and talking (requiring a quieter scene).  But, we say, this Westside Wednessday, live it up like you did in college. Dance, sing, mack, drink, repeat.

Your ability to recover from a night of binge drinking might not be what it was in the college days, your slower metabolism will require you to run off those fries tomorrow, and your walk of shame to work (rather than your dorm) the next morning might not go over so well with the boss-man. But hey, the drinks were cheap and at least one 21 year old UCLA kid hit on you.

And, for those with earlier “adult” bedtimes, you can still get your excessive college-style drinking on during happy hour, Mon-Fri 4-8pm with $3 beers, $4 wells, and $4 house wine. And, to balance out all those cheap drinks, and save you from some of the aforementioned poor decisions, you can enjoy $6 plates from 4-7pm Mon-Fri like nachos, mozarella sticks, spinach dip, pulled pork sliders, wings, and pizza.

Happy Hour At Michael’s

Update 2014: Mon – Sat, 5-Close at the BAR ($5 Beers, $7 Wine, $8 Cocktails + $6 Bites)

No, this is not a sale on arts and crafts.

Nor is it some sort of sneaky term laden with sexual innuendo for what goes down at my place when the fiance gets home from work.

Rather, happy hour at Michael’s is just what it sounds like but you never believed possible. Discounted drinks and food for a couple glorious hours at the famous dining establishment Michael’s, in Santa Monica. And the deals are actually palatable!

The popular lounge area at Michael’s

Happy Hour at  Michael’s

When: Monday-Friday from 5-7pm

What: $4-$8 Drinks + $6 Bites

Some of the scrumptious sounding discounted menu items include Duck Confit Rillettes ($6), Seasonal Melon & Serrano Ham ($6), Crispy Sweet Bread Poppers ($6), and Oysters ($3/ea). Honestly, the whole HH menu sounds so delicious and fancy schmancy that we’d be down to order it all and just gorge ourselves on indulgent bites.

As for the booze list: beers (Stella & Amstel) are just $4, wines are $6/glass, “Jason’s Famous Punch” is $6 (made with Rum and a ton of fruits and juices), and specialty cocktails are $8 a pop. All and all a pretty snazzy deal considering the level of restaurant we are talking about here.

We just love spots that allow us to feel like classy gals, all the while getting drunk & fat on our oh-so-meager budgets.

Xino Love

Get these BBQ Pork Sliders in my belly NOW.

2012: Restaurant has since closed. Sad. No more cheap dim sum and booze in Santa Monica…

For info on our latest venue obsession for eating & drinking without breaking the bank, hop on over to WeWitItLA to see our guest post on Xino in Santa Monica. We have been here a few times and keep finding reasons to love it even more. Happy Hour? Check. Late Night Happy Hour? Check. Bottomless Mimosas (oh yes!) CHECK. Plus add in a fantastic outdoor patio, sexy lounges for getting buzzed and cuddly, and the opportunity to drunk shop? Really its the mack-daddy of all things Finer. And yes, I just said mack-daddy.

(By the way, for some really entertaining reading on drunk shopping, check out this month’s Lucky Mag article. Is it just me or is the writer actually trying to make an ‘issue’ out of drunk shopping? Seriously??? Well, regardless of their intention, the article is awesome, as is drunk shopping.)

Monday Night Bucket Night @ La Sandia

The perfect dinner doesn’t get easier than a bucket of hot wings and a bucket of beers.  Especially with football season creeping up on us – it’s the ideal combo of food+booze for any Monday night football game.  Although you’ll have to wait a month to actually enjoy this deal with some good ol’ American football, head to La Sandia tonight to check out their Monday night hot wing and beer bucket deal.

Every Monday, from 4pm-close, La Sandia will offer a bucket of Coronas and a bucket of their achiote wings for just $25.  If you’re having trouble getting your man to head to some small plates happy hour with cheese plates and wine, this might be a better option to get him to leave the house after work.  We can’t really think of a manlier meal than wings and beer, can you?

If you coincide your timing with La Sandia’s daily happy hour, which runs from 4:00-7:00pm, you can also order up $3 bar bites (quesadillas, tacos, sliders, ribs, nachos and more!) and $5 cocktails/wine to enjoy with your buckets.

AND, during the month of August, La Sandia is also celebrating their Agave Festival, which means if you’re lucky you’ll can get some complimentary agave tastings while you’re there!

Some other details we should mention: La Sandia has a great patio to soak up some sun during your boozing and valet is complimentary for up to 3 hours for dining patrons!

Stella Rossa Late Night Happy Hour

2014 Update: Now Stella Barra Pizzeria. Not certain they offer HH.

Though we always feel guilty, and hungover, after enjoying a good late night happy hour, we simply cannot resist them. Yes, the next day will suck, as you try and sneak in naps on/under your desk and pound coffee to try and delete the pounding headache, but the drinks were so cheap! And what is life if you can’t live a little?!

If you follow along with that justification for mid week, late night, boozing, then you’re sure to enjoy this spot:

Stella Rossa Pizza: Late Night Happy Hour!

Mon – Thu, 10pm – 12am. Fri – Sat, 11pm – 1am. Sun, 9pm – 11am.

Pair this delicious pizza w/ some cheap booze at happy hour!

No, that was not a typo. Yes, there is late night happy hour ON THE WEEKEND too. A night when you were going to drink anyway and stay up until cockroaches crawl outta the gutters and take over the streets. But instead of paying $12 for a glass of vino on your weekend binge, you’ll be paying $5. FIVE DOLLARS FOR WINE… ON THE WEEKEND!

Happy hour deals also include $3 Bottled beers, $4 Drafts, and $12 pitchers of red and white sangria.

So not only can you drink for cheap during the week way past your bedtime, but you can drink for cheap on the weekend until your bedtime!

Angel’s Piano Bar Happy Hour

Update Feb 2012: Angels has closed, new venue coming soon…

.

Recipe for the perfect happy hour:

One part live music. (Live jazz bands, singers, saxophone players, etc. The lineup changes daily.)

One part cheap drinks. (2 for 1 premium wells, $5 wine, $6 margs, $8 dealers choice, $12 sangria pitchers, $3 PBR, $4 beers)

One part discounted southern style bites. ($4-$7 plates like deep fried pickles, pulled pork sliders, cormeal crusted calamari & more!)

One part convenience (Happy hour runs Tues – Fri, 5pm – 8pm!!!)

Add a pinch of awesomeness by offering Happy Hour pricing on drinks ALL NIGHT on Tuesdays and you’re set!

.

Really, it’s an fantastic recipe for an amazing time on a short budget. Not to mention, the vibe inside Angels is very swank. It feels very 1930s/40s rat pack, where you’d think shady dealings were doing down over bourbons on the rocks, while a sultry Jessica Rabbit entertains the crowd. Delicious, drunk, and entertaining.
