Lagunitas Tasting at BottleRock

Did you know that beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage? And the THIRD most popular beverage OVERALL (boozy or not) after water and tea?! Wowza!

If you didn’t, now you do. If you did, consider it a friendly reminder to drink more beer. Thanks Wikipedia!

Photo via boabeerblog.com

To keep up with the status quo, we suggest throwing back a few cold ones tonight. And here’s where to do it: tonight (April 24th) at BottleRock,  from 7-10pm, you can slurp down five different beers from Lagunitas Breweing Co. for just $15.

On top of the five delicious brews, your $15 will also get you a souvenir glass, and a friendly 20% discount off any of the featured beers from the night.

Beers included:

– Czech Style Pilsner

– Censored, Copper Ale

– A Little Sumpin Sumpin, American Wheat (LOVE this name.)

– IPA India Pale Ale

– Lucky 13, American Strong Ale

.

The tasting is at the Culver City Bottle Rock location only. And make sure to bring some beer-drankin friends too to help us get one step closer to beating out measly tea for the #2 beverage spot. Yes we can! Yes we can!

$6 Beer Flights Tonight at The Rockefeller

We have your plans set for every remaining Tuesday in January (including tonight):

The best part about this deal is you get to pick ANY beer you want. So debating between the Oatmeal Stout, the Hef, the IPA, and the Cider? Have one of them all. In fact, at just $6 a flight, we’d say its reasonable to try at least 3 flights of beers to wash down (or replace) your dinner. A good way to travel around the world of beer (and make Tuesday a little more tolerable.)

Pair this deal with their 5 for $15 wine Wednesdays and The Rockefeller is quickly becoming one of our favorite drunk+fat+cheap spots in the South Bay.

Maui Beer Nights

With this humid and hot weather in LA lately, you’d think we were living on some tropical island (if only we didn’t have work and could perch ourselves on a lounge chair with drink in hand!)

A couple South Bay spots we know must be feelin the same tropical vibe: in honor of LA Beer Week, The Tripel & Hudson House will be serving up some deliciously refreshing Maui beers along with some tasty bites, today and tomorrow. Perfect timing!

.

The scoop: Tonight at Hudson House (Oct 17th, 5-9pm) and tomorrow at The Tripel (Oct 18th, 5-9pm) a lovely flight of four Maui beers will be available and paired with four different hor de’oeuvres, all for just $25. And, while neither location includes a beach side lawn chair, they both are a hop skip and a jump away from the ocean (The Tripel being a much shorter jump) so it’ll kinda feel like vacation, right?

A great opportunity to soak up the warm fall weather and suck down some tasty beers from our 50th state.

Hop Head Heaven @ Library Alehouse

Seems like there is always an event going on around town to encourage our alcoholic tendencies.  Case in point: Hop Head Heaven. Head to Library Alehouse in Santa Monica from now til the 24th to take part in their Hop Head Heaven fest,  a 10 day celebration of all things beer, featuring rotating handles of ‘hop-centric’ booze.

The kick-off event was yesterday (oops), but here are the details: $10 will buy you your 6oz tasting glass + your first pour.  From there on out, until February 24th, you can use your tasting glass to try all featured beers for $2.00-$3.50 a pour.

Check out Library Alehouse’s Facebook and Twitter to get the full details on the different beers they will be pouring.  On February 21st they will also be tapping some special kegs that they are bringing back with them from SF Beer Week as well.

Froma: Beer+Cheese Tasting

A nice change from the standard wine+cheese pairings – Froma will be holding a BEER & cheese pairing session this Saturday.

Yes, this place is typically a stellar wine and gourmet foods shop, but from 5pm – 7pm this Saturday they’ll be switching things up a bit and featuring some suds. They’ve brought in beer expert Jeff Musial to teach you about beers of different styles and regions, and help you match them up with some delicious pasteurized milk product!

This will not a be a Bud Light and Kraft singles kinda tasting (just a bit classier than that). Think Scoth Ales paired with Blue di Buffalo (oh god that sounds good), or on the fruitier side a Cabicou paired with a Peche Lambic (yes it tastes like the best sparkling fruity cocktail ever, but it is in fact a Belgian BEER, and is absurdly delicious.)

Tickets: $20/pp, reservations recommended.

PS: Froma also has a great work week happy hour featuring discounted wine, beer, and small plates of food.

SuperSerious Comedy + Free Beer

Need plans for tomorrow night? Here ya go:

Not only do you get a rad comedy show, but unlike the 2 drink purchase minimums at the Improv and The Laugh Factory (making your $10-$20 ticket really more like $30-$45), this shows ticket price comes with FREE BEER.

And it’s not shitty beer either – it’s GOOD beer from Eagle Rock Brewery.

On top of that, there will also be food for purchase from the Wiloughby Road Food Truck,  sweets from J-Squared Bakery, music by DJ R-Rated (oh what a clever, hard-core, name), and of course, live comedy performances by Iliza Shleshinger, Jon Dore, Baron Vaughn, Dimo, and The Birthday Boys.

And it’s all just $10.

(Well, unless you procrastinate and wait to buy at the door – then it’ll be $15)

It’s an awesome deal. However, we recommend you take it one step further and flash-some-cash by upgrading your ticket with the All-In-One Holiday Ticket Special. For just $8 more, ($18 total) you’ll get the show ticket, the beer, a $5 voucher to the Willoughby Road Truck, a 1 item voucher for J-Squared, and a raffle ticket.

(To reserve your Holiday ticket special you’ll need to email info@superseriousshow.com)

Either way, it’s a good deal and a fun way to get drunk+fat+humorous on a Thursday night.

The Super Serious Show

Where: Smashbox Studios / 8549 Higuera Street, Culver City

When: 3rd Thursday of Every Month (i.e. Tomorrow, Dec 16th)

Time: 7pm Reception, 8pm Show

Tickets: $10 Online, $15 at Door, $18 All-In-One Deal

8oz Beer Tasting

This event pairs our love for burgers, our love for beers, and our reluctance to leave our neighborhood quite perfectly:

.

8oz BEER TASTING

Where: 8z Burger Bar (Bar/Lounge Area)

When: Dec 15th, 7pm – 9pm

What: 5 Different Beers Paired with Passed Bar Bites (see menu below)

Price: $25/pp

RSVP: info@8ozburgerbar.com

I’d say on a typical night at 8oz we spend AT LEAST $20 a person ($10 burger, $1 for cheese, $1 for sauce, $4 fries to share, $4 Happy Hour Beer), and we only get to try one beer and one burger, maybe two if we’re in the share-y mood. And, though we go to 8oz quite frequently (it’s in our ‘hood) we still rarely try anything new, usually sticking with a hef paired with the 8oz (V’s choice), the Melrose (my choice), or the lamb burger (my new favorite.)

BUT, at this event we’ll get to spend just $25 and try FIVE beers with FIVE delicious food pairings! Love it.

The pairings for the night will be as follows:

* Short Rib Pastrami Reuben w/ Brother Thelonius

* Alaskan Cod Chowder w/ Scrimshaw Pilsner

* Wild Boar Meatloaf w/ Red Sea Ale

* Blue Star Mussels w/ Le Merle Saison

* Pork Sausage Meatball Slider w/ ACME IPA

* Old Stock Ice Cream Sundae w/ Old Rasputin

So, I realize there are SIX pairings listed here and not five, maybe they are throwing in a bonus beer because it’s the holidays. Or, maybe they’ll force you to make the impossible decision of selecting just 5 of the 6 options to enjoy. Whatever the situation, we’re still excited.

Make sure to RSVP to email address above in advance as space is limited.

$0.30 Beer!

Yes, you read the title correctly – thirty cent beer.  I don’t think there is really anything you can get for $0.30 anymore but gather up your coins tonight & head to Surly Goat tonight for some seriously cheap beer.

The cause for celebration? Sierra Nevada’s 30th anniversary – the first batch of their pale ale was brewed on November 15th, 1980.  Tonight, starting at 6pm, Surly Goat will be tapping a keg of Sierra Nevada which you can enjoy for just $0.30 per half-pint until the keg runs dry. Surly Goat will also have some ‘rare’ Sierra Nevada beers on draft, including their Torpedo Ale, 20th St Pale Ale, Celebration Ale, and an Estate Homegrown IPA.

Don’t forget that happy hour at Surly Goat runs from 6-8pm, so you can also get select beers and well drinks for $4.  Combined with the keg deal, this is sure to be the cheapest blackout of your life.

Bear in mind that there is no food served at the Surly Goat, but if you want to get your grub on you can walk to a few nearby spots – the Hudson, Baby Blues BBQ, or grab some cheap tacos at Los Tacos across the street.
