Thursdays always have me thinking of happy hours – I’m itching for the weekend and feel the need to squeeze in some boozy plans in an effort to get my weekend started early. And, I’m pretty sure most of you are on the same page. If you work downtown and had to deal with all of the Occupy LA hoopla on your morning commute today, I know you’re definitely in need of many, many drinks. So, here’s another DT happy hour to add to the already looooong list: Urbano Pizza Bar.
Urbano opened up earlier this year next door to the Library Bar, another favorite DT watering hole of ours. They introduced their happy hour not too long ago, and the deals sound pretty amazing.
From 5-7pm, you can get your hands on $4 beers, $6 margherita pizzas, or if you’re not hungry enough for an entire pizza, happy hour slices are just $2 a pop. Basically, you’ll be able to leave buzzed and full for under $20. Sounds like a winner in our books.

Update 2014: We’re just going off Yelp reviews here, but seems like brunch is now $15 for bottomless booze (and it might include some sort of spread of food too…)
It seems that there are now a ridiculous amount of sausage+beer spots around town and I know that we all let out a collective sigh when we hear about yet another one opening up. But, Wirsthaus, which recently opened up on La Brea, is calling our names – they’re in our ‘hood and the best part, they just announced bottomless weekends. No, they don’t mean that they’ll serve you sans pants, even better, they’ll be serving you bottomless mimosas.
Yup, add Wirsthaus to your brunch roster for a boozy weekend brunch. Bottomless brunch runs every Saturday and Sunday from 11am-3pm. Perfect for some pre-tailgating grub, no better way to start a day of football than with champagne and sausage, right? And yes, now that football season is back we will probably reference it in about 96% of our posts.
Bottomless bubbly is just $8 or make it mimosas for just $12. You won’t find your typical breakfast fare here, expect to order some sausage, shnitzels, potato-loaded sides, and pretzels that are supposed to be out of this world.
Other things you should note (and that we already love ) about Wirtshaus: large boot-shaped glasses (das boot! das boot!), ping pong tables, outdoor seating, $11 beer flights (with 5 beers!), ALL NIGHT happy hour on Mondays. FTLA approved!

There is definitely not a shortage of happy hours downtown to hit up after a long, hard day of work, but here’s another one to add to your list: Public School 612.
PS 612 opened up right next to Library Bar, and is a chill spot to grab a drink and some bites post-work and maybe pre-rooftop boozing at The Standard, which is right across the street. Their happy hour runs daily from 4-7pm and here’s what you’ll get:
- $2-$4 bites (tacos, hot dogs, spring rolls, ribs)
- $4 beer
- $5 skinny margaritas
- $10 for a wine carafe (about 2 glasses)
I am loving that they have skinny margaritas on their HH menu, getting drunk + skinny instead of drunk + fat is probably something we need to try more of. In addition to their wonderful happy hour deals, PS 612 occasionally holds beer classes – get it, since they’re a school? – and they just so happen to be having one tomorrow night.
Tomorrow’s class, Hops 101, starts at 7:30pm, and for $25 you can educate yourself in all things beer with 6 tastings paired with some light snacks. Reservations are required, so if you plan on stopping in to learn all about your IPAs, make sure to call ahead.

Unless you’re pulling up to a drive thru, there aren’t many places you can get a cheap burger anymore. Especially in LA, the land of over-priced gourmet burgers thanks to places like Father’s Office, Umami, Golden State, and even The Counter. Which is why I don’t just like, but love, the happy hour at Far Bar.
From Monday to Wednesday, score $5 burgers from 3-7pm during Far Bar’s happy hour, as well as drink specials like $1 off all draft beer and $2 off all cocktails and wine. (They have happy hour nightly but the burger deal is just M-W). Think of it as an adult happy meal of sorts.
I headed to Far Bar the other week after work, curious as to what exactly this $5 burger would be like. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. This was not your typical bar burger, you can choose from a few different types of burgers, like The Far Bar burger with smoked gouda and grilled onions, or the BLAT with applewood smoked bacon, avocado and onion marmalade. When my burger arrived, and I’m not kidding on this one, it was as big as my face. For $5?! I couldn’t have been happier..or more full after finishing my meal.
Far Bar is tucked inbetween nondescript buildings near Little Tokyo, you’ll probably walk by the little alley leading back to the bar a few times before figuring out where it is. They have a great patio that is perfect for a warm summer night after work, definitely one of my new favorite go-to happy hours downtown for getting drunk+fat on the cheap.
They’ve got beers from Eagle Rock brewery on tap for the month of July, plus starting tonight, they will have beer/cheese pairings in the front lounge every Monday and Tuesday!

We’ve already given you quite a few Taco Tuesday choices (Casa, La Sandia, James Beach, and some others) and even a Taco Wednesday at Don Antonio’s, but here is yet another option to add to your list of options for tacos + booze tonight. Head to Mission Cantina on Sunset for $1 tacos all day long.
Mission Cantina is brought to you by the same people as The Bowery, Mercantile and District, so you can be sure to expect good food and good service. These aren’t your 2-for-$1 Jack in the Crack tacos.
In addition to $1 tacos, which are a pretty awesome deal in themselves, you can also get $4 Tecates or Dos Equis with your tacos. There is a limit of 5 tacos, but you really shouldn’t be eating more than 5 anyhow. The tacos included in their TT menu include: chicken, pork, carne asada and veggie. If you feel like boozing it up, coordinate your TT timing with their daily happy hour, which runs from 5-8pm, and you can get $3 off your drink. Meaning their usual $7 margs will only cost you $4! They have a large selection of tequilas and some great specialty cocktails that are worth trying as well.
A great option to get drunk+fat tonight for under $10!
