I work downtown, and not in the Bottega Louie or Chaya part of DT but in the factory filled and too close to skid row part of downtown. There are not many choices for lunch around but thankfully I am close to Little Tokyo, which has been my saving grace on days that I am unable to bring my standard heat-up Trader Joe’s meal.
Two weeks ago, a coworker and I discovered a lunch place that is seriously cheap and seriously amazing. And since that week I have been back probably 4-5 times. The artsty hipster waiter probably thinks I have a crush on him by now. But he is cute, I’ll give him that.
Anyways, I thought I would share this lunch spot since it’s pretty much the best ever and will get you fat (and drunk if you can pull off the boozy work lunch….too hard for me since I can never stop after one and would end up passing out at my desk) on the cheap.
This great lunch savior is called K-Town BBQ. I know, I know…the name kinda sucks and isn’t original…not to mention it’s near Little Toyko and not Koreatown but those are minor details. The food is delicious. They have $1 (yes….ONE DOLLAR) Korean tacos that are to.die.for. Literally. You can choose from an assortment of tacos and mix and match as you please. They have rib eye, chicken, pork, calamari, and veggie tacos – all for $1 a piece.
The tacos aren’t what you would expect for $1 either – they come loaded up and are honestly some of the best I’ve ever eaten. And if you are looking for a heartier meal, K-Town BBQ also has all you can eat Korean bbq for just $14.95 during the week and $16.95 on weekends. They do have sake and beer but I’ll have to get back to you on pricing for that, but I think it was pretty standard and wallet friendly.
The place is open for lunch and dinner so if you live downtown definitely stop by to check it out. It is right next door to (and operated by the same people as) Zip Fusion, who have amazing sushi and bento box lunch specials as well.
I can’t stress how good these tacos are so if you are in the area please stop by, you can thank us later.
